Six years later the picture had totally changed. Sleeping bags in front of the box-offices, the day before the tickets actually went on sale, were the first sign that the full-blown breakthrough of Bruce in Holland was a fact. To the astonishment of the on looking media, the two concerts sold out in a matter of a few hours. One journalist calculated that more people in Holland had purchased a ticket for the concert, than actually bought the River-album, which at that point was high on the Dutch album charts. Bruce's reputation as an amazing performer had apparently preceded him. Bruce didn't disappoint his Dutch fans. Both shows in Holland were great. The first night opened with an early version of 'Follow That Dream'. The first set of that show was very much a standard set. During the second set 'Stolen Car', 'Wreck On The Highway' and 'Point Blank' were played in one evening during the European part of the River-tour. Two of these songs have been included as bonus- tracks. The show featured here in its entirety is the second night, which as my first live concert of Bruce Springsteen. Ticket price: 27,50 Dutch Guilders (nowadays 12,50 Euro / less that 15 dollars). (You can't park your car for that money now). As usual Bruce hits his peak on the second night. An exceptional show with many highlights. After playing a more or less regular setlist on the first night, Bruce opened the show with the premiere of 'Run Though The Jungle'. The slow and frightening version of this Creedence Clearwater Revival song had people confused but intrigued. During the whole song the stage was almost completely dark with only two small spots on both sides of the stage, shining on Bruce. The somber song and Bruce's intense singing silenced the deafening noise that the crowd created when they notices that The Boss had taken the stage. That sound came back when Bruce ended 'Run Though The Jungle' and loudly counted off in the dark. On the moment Bruce and the E Street Band plunged into 'Prove It All Night', all the podium lights came on in one big blinding flash. The crowd exploded and the concert had really begun. Bruce decided to change the order of songs a little bit. 'Factory' and 'Thunder Road' were moved to the middle of the first set. Because the changed position of 'Thunder Road', 'Badlands' became an unusual closer of the first set. The second set saw no major changes, but the encores included the European debut of 'I'm A Rocker', which was played between 'Devil With The Blue Dress Medley' and 'Rockin' All Over The World'. It's an amazing show, during an amazing tour of an amazing performer. Hope you'll enjoy it.
