1971-October-17 2nd Gen ? ** speed corrected ** Golden Hall San Diego, CA Disc 1 - 57.50 1 Careful With That Axe 13.20 2 Fat Old Sun 16.08 3 Atom Heart Mother 16.17 4 The Embryo 12.04 Disc 2 - 31.09 1 Set The Controls 13.32 2 Cymbaline 11.47 3 Blues 5.50 Total Length: 89.00 This is a killer performance by the band, my favorite of 1971. Careful has a nice long gap between Roger's "Careful with that axe" line and the actual scream (2.30 min !). That is the longest gap that I can think of and allows for some nice atmospheric music. The original 71-Oct-17 recording had a significant slow speed problem, which has been corrected on this version, by myself using From Oblivion and my own ears as a guide. I read a comment by someone about the New Mown Grass release (NMG), which was speed corrected from supposedly the same source as I had, that said the correction was too much, resulting in a faster than normal speed. Comparing the length of NMG (86.21) to mine (89.00) indicates either a shorter source was used for NMG or some serious speed correction was done. My original source was 90.57, about 2min longer than my corrected version The original lineage listed this as 1st Gen, but that now appears to have been incorrect, and should be listed as 2nd Gen. Lineage: Aud Master Cass > HiFi > DAT2 > SHN > WAV > 2CD > WAV > Speed Corrected via Audacity at +2.20 > 2CD Notes that came with this recording: Sounds more or less like From Oblivion (already the best sounding version around). May have slightly more turbolence but it's uncut, with between song content that were edited out in all other versions.
