The tape was recorded at 7 ½ ips in single-track mono so this pint size reel was flipped at least every 22 minutes. This created some breaks in the original recording. I copied this concert from the original 5" reels in 1986 using a Tandberg reel to reel; Revox B-77 reel to reel (w/ Dolby). My friend made a cassette copy of my reel (without the Dolby decoder) and this complete concert is from that source. The missing decoder creates a slightly brighter version of this concert as compared to my DAT copy but this version includes the encore that was missing from that DAT. I have transferred the audio from a Nakamichi CR3-A cassette; Audigy 4 Pro sound card @ 24/44.1 to my hard drive. NERO wave editor was used to splice the tape flips and remove many volume dropouts and fluctuations that originated from the master tapes and also from my reel to reel copy which had aged poorly. The first master tape ran out and was flipped during "Careful With That Axe Eugene". An unknown amount of music is missing and a splice can be found at 8:07. The next missing section is approximately 22 minutes into "Atom Heart Mother" where the master tape runs out and the required flipping and rethreading of the reel to reel similarly took place in the dark so an unknown amount of this song is also missing. I took the liberty to copy about 20 seconds from an earlier section of the same song to fill in the missing section with those 20 seconds. This patch is located between 22:40 and 23:01. There is likely more missing seconds but this patch blends the break nearly transparently. 24 Bit files dithered to 16 bit using Audacity then the tracks were cut using CD Wave. Many thanks to Rick Sheehy for sending me his cassettes. Mike Martin, June 2009
