1970-June-28 (early morning hours of the 28th, not 1970-June-27) Festival of Blues and Progressive Music Bath, Shepton Mallet, Somerset, England Disc 1 - 68.52 1 Green Is The Colour 3.28 2 Careful With That Axe 9.49 3 A Saucerful Of Secrets 17.57 4 Set The Controls 13.27 5 Atom Heart Mother 24.11 Green - A little distortion around the edges, but it seems to be corrected shortly into the song. The recording could use a bit of a boost in volume, as it kind of fades away at times. Some movement of the mic during this song. No speed problems, which is a very, very good thing. Careful - A very nice performance of Careful With..., which is the highlight of this show for me. Dave does some very nice, prominent guitar strumming prior to the scream section. Roger even does a mini scream during this, though Dave never lets up on his guitar strumming. There is no quiet section prior to the scream where Roger does his "Careful..." bit. In fact, I cannot hear Roger say anything prior to his scream. Careful definitely has a slightly different feel and sound to it here. I really like this song's performance here. A very nice performance indeed! Saucerful - Nice improv work by the group, especially Dave. This is a very good performance, though there is some feedback on Dave's guitar in the post improv section. Though, that can sometimes add a nice effect as well. Very nice. Set The Controls - Another good performance. Nice guitar work by Dave and keyboards by Rick. Very hypnotic. AHM - It pretty much sucks, as is ALWAYS the case with the orchestra/choir performances (and which is NEVER the case with the group only performances). However, there is a historical element here, as this is the debut performance of AHM w/ orchestra/choir. Have you ever noticed that the choir always sounds like it's taken from the soundtrack of those Omen movies. The group playing is laid back. The sound quality and volume goes down a bit during their improv section about 2/3 into the song. When the orch kicks back in, the sound improves a bit. Sound quality is a little rough. There is some distortion and the music gets a little distant at times. Overall, though, this is a nice show, even if 24min is wasted by the orchestra and choir performance of AHM.
